Our journey began with an in-depth design presentation before a panel of esteemed judges, including experts from DRDO and Boeing. We meticulously explained our aircraft's structure, material choices, and innovations, emphasizing how these elements contributed to overall performance. The judges were highly impressed by our strategic approach and technical acumen.
For the UAV’s manufacturing, we utilized:
- Aeroply and balsa wood for the wing structure, ensuring a balance of strength and lightweight efficiency.
- Flite board for the fuselage, providing durability while minimizing weight.
- XPS foam for the empennage, optimizing aerodynamic performance.
With a smooth technical presentation, the team confidently moved forward to the next stage.
Before flight rounds, our UAV underwent a rigorous technical inspection to ensure compliance with
competition regulations. The UAV was thoroughly measured and weighed, adhering to strict rulebook
requirements. Key evaluations included:
- Storage & Transport Box Compliance: Verified to be within the 3-foot size limit.
- Payload Box Verification: Cross-checked using a gauge box with precise dimensions.
Our Micro Class UAV successfully passed all technical inspections and assembly tests, achieving an impressive payload fraction of 0.704, showcasing its superior design efficiency.
Despite challenging high-wind conditions, our team’s pilot executed an exceptionally smooth landing,
demonstrating remarkable skill and control. Team Arrow’s strong performance led to:
- 1st Place in Technical Presentation
- 2nd Overall in Micro Class
- Highest Payload Fraction in the Competition
While we narrowly missed the national championship, our achievement in payload optimization and aerodynamic efficiency distinguished us from other teams.
Participating in SAEISS DDC 2024 was an invaluable experience, strengthening our technical expertise, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. The competition provided a platform for innovation and collaboration, reinforcing our passion for UAV development. Team Arrow remains committed to pushing the boundaries of aerospace engineering, preparing for even greater achievements in the future.
