The Student Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS) 2024 competition was a challenge like no other. With some of the best UAV teams from across the world competing, Team Arrow set out on a mission—not just to participate but to make a mark on the global stage. And we did just that by securing an incredible 3rd place internationally!
This journey was filled with intense engineering, high-stakes testing, and a whole lot of perseverance. Here’s how we took on the world and emerged as one of the top UAV teams in the competition.
SUAS is known for its rigorous challenges, testing teams on their UAVs' capabilities in autonomy, object
detection, mapping, and precision payload delivery. The stakes were high, and every detail mattered.
We knew that winning on an international stage required more than just a great UAV—it required innovation,
efficiency, and perfect execution. Our team focused on three core areas:
Autonomous Flight & Navigation – Ensuring our UAV could operate without manual control and adapt to
mission parameters.
Real-Time Object Detection & Mapping – Integrating advanced computer vision for accurate identification
of targets.
Payload Precision – Delivering mission-critical payloads with pinpoint accuracy.
To achieve all this, we worked tirelessly, testing new flight algorithms, upgrading our camera systems, and refining our autopilot control. Each test flight brought us closer to perfection.
After months of preparation, it was time to put our UAV to the test against the best teams in the world. The
competition consisted of multiple rounds, each assessing different mission objectives.
🔹 Autonomous Takeoff & Navigation – Our UAV lifted off smoothly, navigating through waypoints flawlessly.
🔹 Object Detection & Mapping – Our onboard vision system quickly identified and classified objects, securing
top points in this category.
🔹 Payload Delivery – In a breathtaking moment, our UAV executed a perfect payload drop, impressing the
judges.
The pressure was high, and every move counted. But our hard work, precision engineering, and teamwork paid
off. As the final scores were announced, Team Arrow had secured 3rd place internationally!
